An aspiring composer, Marie Baringer completed her Master's degree in Music Composition in 2008, which finished up with an internship at a well-known film composer's studio in L.A. She received the 2008 ASCAP Henry Mancini Scholarship to help fund the final semester. Her work is refined and spirited, and you will enjoy listening to it. Although mainly a vocalist, Marie plays trumpet as a hobby. However, her ambitions, although once directed towards the stage, are aimed towards composing music for the silver screen. She began seriously composing during the summer of 2004 when she was asked to create the musical score for her family's short film "The Patriot Deception," which was selected as a finalist at the 2005 Telly Awards for Use of Music. Since then, she has composed several additional pieces in her spare time that she hopes to get published someday. Join us as we interview this talented young lady...

Story behind the song
I came up with the idea for this song when I was driving around my home state doing service work for my dad's businees and thinking about a friend who would be studying abroad the next semester, which was my last. I originally chose the trombone to add another dimension to the song by playing with the voice, answering it and harmonizing with it, because the friend plays trombone and guitar in the school jazz/pep band, but I wouldn't do very well writing for guitar. :) Thus, although the words are broad enough not to give away who I was thinking of and allow it to be usable for any of my friends, there is still an identifying feature offering a hint of my "inspiration." In a live performance, though, trombone would not have balanced well with voice, so at my voice teacher's suggestion, I changed to a woodwind.
Lyrics
The time has come for us to part, Your path is leading one way, and mine another. But before on our new paths we start, Let us take some time to talk together. Keep the faith, stay strong; Help the friendless get along. Make new friends, but keep in touch with the old, But if I never see you again: Know that I care for you; You're a marvelous friend. I'm glad I got to know you-- May our friendship never end! It seems not long ago since we first met-- It's hard to believe how the time flies. But much as we might like to forget, The time has come for us to say goodbye, So goodbye. Love the Lord with all, Lean on Him when you would fall. Chase your dreams, keep hope alive in your heart, And if I never see you again, Promise you'll remember me; I'll remember you. Say a little prayer for me; I'll pray for you! Have a great life, my friend; Have a great life. I hope that I may see you again, But if I never do... I'll see you in heav'n.
