Story behind the song
The last half of 2005 was tough. Within three months of turning 60 I had to have my dog put down, my dad died, and one of my best friends lost his wife to cancer. We all survived through the collective kindness of others. And that line did come from the cover of a church notebook.
Lyrics
Walk Humbly, Love Kindness, Serve Others (c) 2005 by Bill Prewitt A Got a notebook from church D to record thoughts on verse A E and it had a brief line on the cover D To remind us each day A To follow His way: E A Walk humbly, love kindness, serve others. Chorus: D The kindness we show A As we walk here below E A Will lift up our sisters and brothers D So remind me each day A To follow his way: E A Walk humbly, love kindness, serve others. A We watched as his wife D Lost her battle for life. A E And we saw how he grieved for his lover. D And we met at the farm, A And we offered an arm, E A To walk humbly, love kindness, serve others. (Repeat chorus) A Turnin’ 60 was sad, D Lost my dog, then my Dad. A E Left his ashes out there at my brother’s. D But that lesson he lived A Was passed on to my kids: E A Walk humbly, love kindness, serve others. (Repeat chorus) A Got a notebook from church D to record thoughts on verse A E and it had a brief line on the cover D To remind us each day A To follow His way: E A Walk humbly, love kindness, serve others.
