Story behind the song
The history of the struggles of the South African has been filled with stories of violence and oppression from the defunct apartheid system. “Well I heard that things have changed and your policies are new” These particular lyrics in this song reflect the new charge of liberty. This is my story and desire to get away from all the hustle and bustle on my side of the water and travel to South Africa to rejoice in this new found freedom with my brothers and sisters. I also pay homage to the late great Diva Brenda Fassie whose music had no geographical boundaries, as well as the pioneers of freedom in South Africa Nelson Mandela and Steven Biko.
Lyrics
Well I’m tired of all this traffic Watching T.V. is such a bore Dodging people with no manners Who just show up at my door All these crazy emails From folks that I don’t know Had enough of it I’m packing Know exactly where I’ll go South Africa South Africa Land where your people now are free Well I heard that things have changes And your policies are new Brenda Fassie....girl I miss you Cause your music rang so true Nelson Mandela you’re a hero All around the globe Freedom’s a reality You gave your people hope (You gave them hope) South Africa South Africa Land where your people now are free Read of your struggles I sympathized Now I want to see you Through my own eyes Music Stephen Biko We won’t forget you Hmm hmm hmm hmm You gave the final sacrifice You gave yourself Hmm hmm hmm hmm South Africa.. South Africa.. South Africa
