Story behind the song
This song was an attempt to remind us that even though it's Christmas all is not bright and the world is not at peace. It takes more than wishes to make the world a better place. The Night is cold and damp - but still uncommonly warm for the season. The scent of rain is thick in the air. The subway was ominous tonight and Keith’s mind was heavy with anxiety. He left the subway to ease his worried mind in hopes a short walk would clear his thoughts. He was convinced he was in danger with the knowledge he gained today. Suddenly - from seemingly nowhere a bottle smashes on the curb near his feet thrown from a passing car. He jumped back and in his paranoia - quickly hails a cab. The taxi’s radio crackles to life as he takes his seat in the back. The impending storm abruptly starts it’s downpour with a tremendous roll of thunder. The rain pours as they head for the L.I.E. (Long Island Expressway). Keith takes a deep breath and tries to relax while in the back of his mind he knows the seriousness of the secret bookkeeping he’s stumbled upon at work. Now the ball was in his court as his father would say. Keep the lie to himself and deny any knowledge - or - turn them in and hope for the best. Could he live with himself if he didn’t do the right thing? He closed his eyes and whispered a prayer to himself. The long day took a toll on him and he quickly drifted off asleep. He dreamt of his deceased mother reminding him, “Be true to yourself and God will see you through.” When he woke he found they made good time on the L.I.E. and the rain was gone - things looked brighter as the Christmas lights and decorations reminded him that this special time was near. He knew what he had to do. It wasn’t the best job anyway he thought to himself as he got out of the cab... Time for a change. After Christmas tomorrow - he'd turn them in.
