Story behind the song
The Lucky Strike Hit Parade was a show in the beginning days of television. As I spent time with my mom in her later years, watching old time movies I gained a great appreciation of that era (the 1940's) and it's talented performers.
Lyrics
It was a golden age Ten cents a dance and five cent lemonade And the Lucky Strike Hit Parade Now it's gone away Cab Callaway come back home Don't leave us here alone Gene Kelly tap your toe Benny Goodman start the show We miss you Princess Grace Judy Garland's gone away And now the rest of our days They left us here alone GI Joe where did you go Why don't you come back home Magic and moonlight and dancing here with you Til way after midnight dancing here with you
