It must be my name. Ever since I was a skinny high school kid, I felt certain I was destined to be a guitar legend. Sure, I know that was a long time ago, and these days, I look a lot more like the mortgage-paying father from the suburbs I am than Eric Clapton or Keith Richards. But somewhere deep inside, there's a star musician just itching to get out. It seems to be the birthright of any kid born with the last name of Rocks. (Yes, it's my real name.) OK, so I may not be a guitar legend, or a rock star of any sort. But I've finally gotten around to recording my songs. Most of them were written years ago, but just recorded in the past couple of years. It's me on guitars, Ange on bass, Laura H. on some vocals, Eddie Kamenik on drums, Pietro Stein on keys. Enjoy these songs. Pass them around to your friends. Please, let me know what you think (there's a message board for that, you know!). And you can check out my tunes and those from similar artists on RadioFreeDavid.com (you might think it's mine, but it's not).

Story behind the song
Hitchhiking from Berlin to Italy in a heavy rain, I got as far as Nurnberg on the first night and stayed in the Bahnhofsmission. But I had to leave ...
Lyrics
Drivin’ in the night rain Escape from a city of pain Raindrops cry mist before me Headlights cut through that sea I should have left a long time before I would have if I’d thought more My mistakes you pay with your tears I left you alone with your fears Between city walls you stay alone Under grey skies you make your home I know that I had to leave From life to life our paths weave I knew that I could never be The way you wanted me Accepting love I should have thought The road I traveled, what I sought This road is traveled on our own Sometimes with love, often alone I’ve found shelter in city walls But more often I hear that call The rain falls steady on the plain In my heart a city of pain The love for me that you bear Weighs heavy as the border nears Crisis to crisis our lives lead A long highway of wants and needs Sometimes they are realized But often not even recognized This road is traveled on our own Sometimes with love, often alone I’ve found shelter in city walls But more often I hear that call
