It must be my name. Ever since I was a skinny high school kid, I felt certain I was destined to be a guitar legend. Sure, I know that was a long time ago, and these days, I look a lot more like the mortgage-paying father from the suburbs I am than Eric Clapton or Keith Richards. But somewhere deep inside, there's a star musician just itching to get out. It seems to be the birthright of any kid born with the last name of Rocks. (Yes, it's my real name.) OK, so I may not be a guitar legend, or a rock star of any sort. But I've finally gotten around to recording my songs. Most of them were written years ago, but just recorded in the past couple of years. It's me on guitars, Ange on bass, Laura H. on some vocals, Eddie Kamenik on drums, Pietro Stein on keys. Enjoy these songs. Pass them around to your friends. Please, let me know what you think (there's a message board for that, you know!). And you can check out my tunes and those from similar artists on RadioFreeDavid.com (you might think it's mine, but it's not).

Story behind the song
Poland under communism was a vastly different place from New York or Colorado Springs. Food was hard to find, and I subsisted mostly on potatoes, sausage, and vodka bought in the dollar stores. When I traveled back for Betty and Bob's wedding in December, I got a fresh strawberry on the Finnair flight from Berlin to Helsinki--an unimaginable luxury in Poland.
Lyrics
He went away on a winter?s day and on a winter?s day he?s back His eyes move slowly like his hands and his step is slack He seems so strange, he may have gone mad We don?t know when or where His words are grey his words are red Something happened out there He?s not the same man he was when he went away He?s changed and we don?t know how, he?s a different man today A different man today He walks alone he stands apart but when he speaks his words are clear And when he draws us close to him it?s with words we don?t want to hear ?I?ve seen spiteful acts of cruel men,? he says, ?And some of them are ours. Force and strength are blind to love. In their path, the poor man cowers.? He?s not the same man he was when he went away He?s changed and we don?t know how, he?s a different man today A different man today He talks of many lands and tells us words in tongues we do not know Sometimes it all makes no sense, but sometimes those words grow Into trees and men and hills and towns And lives that move and breathe Into hope and pain, anger and despair And hearts that love and bleed. He?s not the same man he was when he went away He?s changed and we don?t know how, he?s a different man today A different man today He?s been to other worlds and see how others live and dream He?s walked their roads and streets and fields, followed trails made by their feet. Sometimes he lies awake at night Stiff like drunk or mad Thoughts of other lands and worlds Keep calling him back He?s not the same man he was when he went away He?s changed and we don?t know how, he?s a different man today A different man today
