Story behind the song
I wanted to write a song about aliens. Chad came up with the arrangement and when we worked out the guitars it flowed so well (to us anyway) that the lyrics were pretty easy. I used a pan delay that was set at the same rate the whole song is so the bouncing voices took it straight back to 1986. It reminds me of Depeche Mode except they actually record in places that don't double as a bedroom. It starts with the alien commenting on how this female investigator has found a blood sample and is comparing it to a human's. It's called pacifism basically because he's not doing anything bad, his only job is to stay secret and maintain. He reminds her that he controls us to an extent and could kill us at any moment, but that's not what he's here for....this time. I'm not sure why he's by the river, but if your job was just to hang out on a planet what would you do? Naturally the river. HA HA HA! What a bunch of crap, huh? You can make fun of me now.
Lyrics
Blood stains, not but nearly the same, Lie before you, Cold stares, Mock your memory of pain, They'll consume you. Spiral down, Far from the clouds again, You'll never find me, I'm not where you want me to be, no, I'm down by the river, Hunt me down and you'll finally believe, girl, It couldn't be clearer, clearer, Red veins, pulse the blood of the sane, I control you, No cares, try to only sustain, I'll consume you.
