Story behind the song
It's time to turn down the lights and huddle up in the blankets. The Winter weather approaches with the season of holidays. I produced this tune to thank a friend. I’m a big fan of cartoons. Not so much the new one’s but the old ones from the thirties and forties. Ub Iwerks made a cartoon called “Jack Frost” and that was the inspiration for this classical tune. I fell in love with the cartoon from the very first time I saw it. It is a story about a little grizzly bear (and he has a little song he sings about being not afraid - because he’s a grizzly bear), his mother warns him about the coming winter. Well, winter comes and the little bear is tempted to run away from home when he’s enchanted by Jack Frost decorating the woods and the little bear’s window with his paint brush bringing fall colors everywhere. So the little bear packs up his bag and throws it over his shoulder and sneaks out the window of his room to follow Jack Frost. Only he wasn’t prepared to come across Old Man Winter himself. A tall white haired fellow with a long white beard and he’s blowing cold air everywhere and making Jack’s fall into Winter. The little bear becomes cold and tries to hide inside a fallen tree - only to become trapped by Old Man Winter blowing icicles across the entrance of the fallen tree like bars making it a prison for the little grizzly bear. The little bear quickly wishes he could go back home and Jack Frost comes and saves him by painting the icicle bars with his magic paint brush turning the bars into candy canes and the little bear licks himself free. He quickly returns home - and promptly gets a spanking from his mother for disobeying - but that was common discipline in those days. He knows that she only punished him for his own good and to teach him a lesson about not following her orders. She hugs him and kisses him goodnight. I thought that cartoon was a great inspiration for this classical tune and wanted to share it.
