I cover highlights from the 1960s: The Beatles and long hair, the Vietnam War and the Apollo 11 moon landing.
Jim Colyer Band is a free-wheeling, ever-changing thing. Members come and go. The one constant is my catalog of songs. I do some of the lead vocals but employ females as I write lots of girl songs.
Story behind the song
I wrote "BACK IN THE 60S" on a city bus in Las Vegas.
Lyrics
BACK IN THE 60S
The first kid in my school to have long hair
My mother cried and said, "You don't care!"
My father yelled and said, "You're a damn fool!"
I gave em a smile and said. "Be cool!"
Back In The 60s
Back In The 60s
My girl friend said she was on my side
Told her mamma I's the intellectual kind
Draft board said you're going to Vietnam
I flashed em a smile and said, "Stay calm!"
Back In The 60s
Back In The 60s
Back In The 60s, I was young and strong
Had lots of women and the Top 40 songs
We had The Beatles and The Rolling Stones
Back In The 60s, you were never alone
Back In The 60s, I turned 21
Drove a Chevrolet and went looking for fun
Jane and Raquel up on the movie screen
Back In The 60s, we were diggin' the scene
July of '69, we walked on the moon
Crosby, Stills & Nash did a Woodstock tune
My fellow Americans, we had a heavy heart
Looking for a way to make a new start
Back In The 60s
Back In The 60s
I finally got drafted and went to Germany
But I knew that girl would never wait for me
Tricky Dicky said things were perfectly clear
There won't be a Watergate for another 3 years
Back In The 60s
Back In The 60s
Back In The 60s, I was young and strong
Had lots of women and the Top 40 songs
We had The Beatles and The Rolling Stones
Back In The 60s, you were never alone
Back In The 60s, I turned 21
Drove a Chevrolet and went looking for fun
Jane and Raquel up on the movie screen
Back In The 60s, we were diggin' the scene
Back In The 60s
