A prayer from a soldier's spouse to have their mate home for Christmas
I write and perform a variety of music, but I especially love to write praise and worship songs...something that has eternal value!
Story behind the song
I thought about how safe and comfortable I am sitting here while there are thousands putting their lives on the line for my freedom. Then, I thought about hard it must be for the wife or husband of someone on active duty to get through the holidays without them by their side. (I'm posting this with me doing the vocal. However, my daughter is learning it to be recorded. That will be uploaded in a few days.)
Lyrics
The Christmas Prayer
(To Have You In My Arms For Christmas)
I can still see you waving goodbye in the distance
Fighting back tears, trying so hard to be strong
And the last words that we whispered to each other
Are all I have to keep me hanging on
I know that there are many miles between us
But you're in my every thought and every prayer
And if I could have one special wish this Christmas
I'd wish with all my heart that you were here.
Chorus:
Just to have you safely in my arms this Christmas
Just to see that little grin I love so much
To sit and watch the fire's glow
And kiss beneath the mistletoe
Just to feel your warm embrace and gentle touch
In all my dreams you're lying here beside me
Far away from every fear and every care
Just to have you safely in my arms this Christmas
To have you home for Christmas is my prayer
Verse Two:
The weather report says there's a very good chance
This Christmas Eve is going to be white
And I think of all good times we had last year
Going sledding and having snowball fights
I try to fill the hours staying busy
It helps to ease this longing in my heart
But I just heard The Carpenters sing, "Merry Christmas Darling"
Reminding me again, that we're apart
Bridge:
Every waking hour I think of you
And every dream I dream, I dream of you
Every day I spend, I'm lost without you
