Story behind the song
I only wrote the arrangement. Adolphe C. Adam wrote the music and John S. Dwight wrote the lyrics back in the 1800's and so it is now in the public domain. I think it is quite possibly the most beautiful and stirring carol in existence. What makes it even more special is that although the people who first heard it performed in Adolphe's church loved it, the critics of the day tore it up ...they hated it. It gives me hope enough to keep writing myself no matter what others may say.
