Auf Wiedersehen, Oma/Elizabeth And John
Comment Share
A medley of two songs. 'Auf Wiedersehen, Oma' was written for my grandmother after she passed away. 'Elizabeth And John' is a song imagining what it must have been like to decide to immigrate to the US in 1928.

I am a solo singer/songwriter. My music is mostly soft although my songs could easily be performed in mostly any style.
For me, it's all about the song. That mysteriously magical thing that happens when a lyric is married to a melody. The writing process is invigorating and exciting while simultaneously being exasperating and difficult. It is that moment when music is being composed and a lyric is being written when I am truly the "artist at his easel." The creative process continues when the song is brought into the studio to be recorded because, as in writing, the production and arrangement processes also have their own sets of challenges. Those challenges are always dictated by the song itself and the task at hand at that moment is to be true to the song and carefully craft a recording that reflects what the song is about. Part three, for me, is to then take that song and perform it. It is the purest form of displaying this work of art called a song and is the only place where the magic of the creation is reflected back to me from a room full of interested listeners. And at that moment it is only as magical as the audience makes me believe it is. My CDs are all available on CDBaby.com.

Lyrics
I bet she’s dancing I bet she’s teaching the Angels an old German song And I bet She’s got them singing along In Heaven today They’re welcoming another Angel home I bet she’s smiling I bet she’s telling them all our names One by one And I bet, she goes for a walk when she’s done In Heaven today There’s a mansion with a party going on Auf Wiedersehen, Oma I’m waving goodbye from the back of the car Auf Wiedersehen, And you keep waving and waving and waving goodbye Until we see each other again Auf Wiedersehen, Auf Wiedersehen, I bet she’s surrounded By all of the love that she’s shown everyone All of her life And I bet, Poppa is there at her side In Heaven tonight I bet they sing a German “Silent Night” Auf Wiedersehen, Oma I’m waving goodbye from the back of the car Auf Wiedersehen, And you keep waving and waving and waving goodbye Until we see each other again Auf Wiedersehen, Auf Wiedersehen, They must have talked about it For hours and hours I bet when they decided They held each other and they cried An immigrant in New York Was common in 1928 The hardships and the promise The uncertain time they’d have to wait Elizabeth and John Learned to carry on In the face of their most trying days There must have been some sleepless nights Some teary eyes, some fears inside They made it through the Great War So why was this so hard to take? The courage of a soldier When the Homeland grew hungrier and colder I bet he thanked the Angels The day his family was on their way Elizabeth and John Learned to carry on In the face of their most trying days Auf Wiedersehen, Oma I’m waving goodbye from the back of the car Auf Wiedersehen, And you keep waving and waving and waving goodbye Until we see each other again Auf Wiedersehen, Auf Wiedersehen,
