Alan Oberdorf, songwriter from the band "US" has started a side project with help from some friends and relatives he calls the Bad Owl Project. Much of Alan’s music in the “Bad Owl Project” reflects on life in northwest Montana, and Alan's personal take on life in general. “Much of today’s music is angry and the lyric’s are very cryptic. If you are not well informed on the subject of the song sometimes they are hard to understand. The Bard’s and Jongular’s of Medieval Europe carried news, gossip, and history in prose and song. This type of music has evolved and continues to do so as today’s pop and rock songs.” Alan calls his music Rural Slowburn, a type of folk influenced by, country rock, rock and other styles. Alan say’s “My music is rough and unrefined, cause I’m (Less than Perfect)”, that is also the title of Alan’s first CD. Alan's new CD "Acoustic Ignorance" will be released soon. He hopes people enjoy his music, but if not “Pate’ de Foie’ Gras” and die. (W. Powell 1999)

Story behind the song
We are all affected by predators from time to time, living in a rural environment our predators are usually four legged. This is a tribute to Ozzie Osbourne, our psychotic cat of 14 years who recently disappeared
Lyrics
Big Bad Owl You think your alone, threes nothing to fear, you’re by yourself, and all is secure quiet of the forest, the wind in the trees, the feeling of security. Back in the shadows where you can’t see, there he sits patiently, with big yellow eyes like two tiny moons; he’s watching your every move Big Bad Owl is watching you, watching your every move Silent wings and stealthy ways, he’ll clean you out if he stays Buffalo wings ain't his thing, but chicken tartar is, and a cat or two to flavor the stew is as welcome treat. He’s hanging around, looking down, looking for something to eat, with big yellow eyes like two tiny moons, looking for some meat. CHORUS The cat is gone, where did he go, I’ve looked around, I don’t know. The chickens are freaked; the rabbit a wreck, the owl is back, that I will bet. He glides in silently, doing what comes naturally, He’s had his butt paddled before, he ain’t gittin caught anymore! CHORUS
