The song is about a person who can’t believed that
some of his close friends and relatives will join a
certain cult and follow a teaching that is totally
full of stupidity. Then that person kept on reminding
them that, “everything is already in your heart”, that
believing the cult leader’s mantra would only put
limitations in their lives.
On the narration part of the song:
“How do you see the man in front of you?
Is he a sinner or saint?
Can you stand the same judgment?
Come on say it, yeah!”
It’s about questioning the cult’s member’s
intelligence. By the way, the cult leader is cursing
on TV all the time, and denying it.
The main riff on E was written for sound-check
purposes (with no guitar solo and no verse) and the
band had been playing it for years. Then one rainy day
of July, Arnie (guitarist) completed the song. But the
band struggled on the arrangement. The guitar solo on
the current version was revised 1 week before it’s
recording. The band allowed Alvin (vocalist) to
interpret the song with total freedom. Coincidentally,
it was also raining outside the bedside studio while
the band was recording the song.
Many people consider the song as a very dark, angry
song. Actually, it’s the essence of a good rock song!
