Story behind the song
Once the rising water destroyed the City of New Orleans, the hope has been the city will rise again better and stronger - hence the song "Rising."
Lyrics
Rain rain rain wind and rain On the shores of Pontchartrain Mississippi flood plain New Orleans Hurricane Ride ride ride out the storm Never been this bad before Flood waters at the door New Orleans Easy no more Now its rising Rising rising Rising high The waters rising Rising rising Rising high Climb climb climb to the roof SOS to the troops Staying here was a goof New Orleans Ain't waterproof Fly fly fly fly away Coast Guard chopper saves the day Where to now we cant say New Orleans Is far away Now its rising Rising rising Rising high The waters rising Rising rising Rising high Drain drain drain the city dry Tear it down and build it high Make those levees touch the sky New Orleans Must never die New Orleans Must never die Now its rising Rising rising Rising high The citys rising Rising rising Rising high Words and Music (c) 2005, 2025 by Jack E. A definite Neil Young feel to this song. Great little tune!
