Solo acoustic live performer reminiscent of the great storytelling songwriters of the sixties and seventies.
Dave has been writing songs and performing professionally since 1987 and is well received virtually everywhere he performs. He owns an easy going and personable demeanor reminiscent of the great storytelling songwriters of the sixties and seventies. His songwriting is accessible at a very personal level, offering insight into the past and a hopeful, if cautious eye toward the future. All of his music is strengthened by vast and varied experience tempered by time, to say nothing of his articulate musicianship and vocal ability. Story behind the song
This song didn't start out with any redeeming qualities whatsoever. It was a dog... with fleas. Poor me, nothing ever works out... whaa, whaa, whaa.... Oh P-LEASE! Yes, life had taken a crappy turn. Nothing was going to plan. We were living with my parents for cryin' out loud! But at some point I came to my senses, and TRIED to focus on SOMETHING worth focusing on! Once it came to me, it seemed so obvious. I hammered together the last verse and suddenly, my dismal little dirge was hopeful. There was a tale worth the telling, and I couldn't wait to tell it. This is still one of my favorites, because it keeps me coming back for more. Foolish dreams are the glue that hold me together. When I lose sight of them, I start to crumble.
Lyrics
I'd have a house out in the country with a wife and a little girl Enough to stretch a little farther than the next month's grocery bill And you would finally find the boy, you would help him to be a man You would face the world together and you would finally understand Foolish dreams of foolish dreamers, it's all they are It seems to me we were never meant to reach up quite this far But foolish dreamers and their lovers still wish on foolish stars But they're farther than they seem ...foolish dreams Remember all the dreams we had in school? We would own the world, we would be nobody's fool Remember all the glory in our schemes? Free from cares or worries, like water in a stream Foolish dreams of foolish dreamers, it's all they are It seems to me we were never meant to reach up quite this far But foolish dreamers and their lovers believe their foolish hearts And they're stronger at the seams Because they still believe ...in foolish dreams
