This song was about trying to come to terms with my inability to change the present or relive the past. As I was writing it, I decided I wanted to embrace not just the good moments of the past, but the bad as well, because I wouldn't want to change those either. I wrote the chorus while staying at Jon Senigaglia's apartment. He added in his two cents in regard to music theory. At some point, I wanted to add keyboards, but I'm glad I kept it simple.
The songwriting philosophy behind this song was one I've discussed with a lot of friends. The more specific the stories and the feelings in a song, the more relatable the overall emotion will be.
This song was written about Hannah Reff.
