Story behind the song
While leading worship at a weekend youth event a fifteen year old girl who in the last year had lost her father, spoke with me about how she knew God was her "daddy." Even though losing her father had been a difficult situation, God had been there for her throughout everything. She knew that He was the father of the fatherless. It took me about ten minutes to write this song the next morning. I feel that this song was meant to be a letter from God to anyone going through a similar situation. I am simply the "messenger."
Lyrics
Letter Stephen Fulton I’m looking down upon you now As you sit alone in silence You ask the questions why and how Could something like this happen I know that you don’t understand And it’s okay to ask the questions Reach out and take hold of my hand And I will lead you through the darkness Just crawl up in my lap and lay your head upon my chest Find peace in my embrace my precious child I’ll give you rest I see the sadness in your eyes How your hearts been torn apart I’ve cried the tears you cry And I’ve felt the pain of a broken heart I know sometimes it seems The sun won’t shine again Just give me everything And don’t let go of my hand I’ll wipe the tears from your eyes ‘Cause I’m your daddy my dear child You are the apple of my eye I swear I’ll never say goodbye
