Story behind the song
This tune is about a young couple who decide to elope to Las Vegas - only to find out there is more to the story... It starts out lite and easy - driving into the outskirts of Vegas, then the bright lights and neon bring on a whole new world to this small town couple. The guitars and keyboards playing off each other are suppose to represent the young couple arguing and fighting and coming to grips with the husbands new found gambling problem. Not a good way to start a marriage. Story: They were young and they were just pulling into Las Vegas. They were determined to get married and have a good time doing it. The bright lights and the busy streets were overwhelming to the young small town couple. Carol’s parents were against the idea of her marrying at such a young age and Tom was going into the Army as soon as they got back. Was it a good idea? They thought so. They found the chapel they researched on the internet and it was a sweet little ceremony with friendly sober witnesses and a minister with a smile. Everything was off to a good start until... Tom caught the bug. Neither Carol nor Tom had a clue - Tom was susceptible to the Vegas Virus. He was trapped in a panic of gambling that seemed to consume him and change him right before Carol’s eyes. She couldn’t drag him away from the blackjack table - even though it was two in the morning on their wedding night and Tom was a $1000 dollars in the black. Carol went to bed that night with tears in her eyes and a pain of doubt in her heart. Maybe her parents were right. She didn’t feel she knew this Tom at all. It was 6:30am when Carol found Tom still gambling at another game and this time he was angry and frustrated beyond comprehension. Tom was gambling on the final $100. Carol was upset, but she wasn’t scared until she saw Tom’s credit card twisted and bent almost beyond recognition in the ash tray next to Tom’s hand. She picked it up and looked at Tom with concern. Then she realized Tom wasn’t wearing his watch, or his new wedding band. Carol started to ask Tom about the credit card. When Tom waved her away she couldn’t help herself as she pull his shoulder to get his attention and the withered look on Tom’s face stopped her. Tom was out of control and so was their future. What was she going to do now?
