Lyrics
angel on your shoulder
VERSE 1: a guy walks into a pub/ drinks some beers, chug-chug/ then he comes out, and he’s drunk/ sticks more beer in the trunk/ gets in the driver’s seat, and he’s gone in a flash/ it’s like he’s in a mad dash, he doesn’t want to be last/ 9, now 10 cars he went speeding past/ leans over, takes a couple smokes from his stash/ speeding and drinking clash, and he’s driving to fast/ uh-oh, this is bad, looks like he’s gonna crash, and then smash!/ he wrecked his car, there goes all his cash/ just because he was drinking and smoking hash/ you think before you do, and you should do the right thing/ or else you might be on your back, hearing sirens ring/ and if do something wrong, don’t lie- you’ll feel the sting/ think of the consequences and think of the King/ do the thing you know is right- that will make him sing/ you don’t wanna end up with your arm in a sling
HOOK: man, that was dumb, that was totally stupid/ it may have looked fun, but you shouldn’t do it/ before you do anything, you gotta think through it/ listen to the angel on your shoulder, or you’ll lose it (x2)
VERSE 2: a guy sits in a parking lot- his age is eighteen/ looks around, sees a Mercedes Benz, all nice and clean/ gets up looking mean, and goes over to the driving machine/ takes a look in the window, sees a bunch of money (bling-bling)/ he breaks in, and looks around to check that nobody had seen/ and then reaches over and takes the all the money (cha-ching)/ he laughs cruelly and says, “sure they locked it, but I’ve got a lock pick, and now the cash’s in my pocket!”/ looks around one more time, then takes off like a rocket/ but what he doesn’t know about his crime is that somebody did spot it/ “get him!” the spotter yells. “the money- he hocked it!”/ a guy pins him down, takes the stolen money (“I got it!”)/ the little devil on his shoulder, man, he should’ve fought it/ the bad thought on his mind, man, he should’ve blocked it/ the bible in the store, man, he should’ve bought it/ and the drift I’m throwing at ya, man, I hope you caught it
REPEAT HOOK
VERSE 3: we all do dumb things, man- you can’t deny/ nobody can be perfect, but we can at least try/ and apologize, for our mistakes, and fix anything you break/ give back anything you take, pray to God for a clean slate/ after I do something wrong, I always regret it/ what was I thinking? I just don’t get it/ and no matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to forget it/ I didn’t want to meet stupid, but there you go- I met it/ mistakes can seem to reign, and mistakes can lose your fame/ and mistakes could always haunt you on a trip down Memory Lane/ mistakes can bring you pain, but after you always gain/ important knowledge, on how not to get another ugly stain/ be careful man, sometimes mistakes can give you a bad name/ then even if that time you didn’t do it, you still might get blamed/ no matter what you claim- it’s “the boy who cried wolf game”/ but don’t worry, remember- that for our sins, Jesus Christ was slain
