Commentary on political campaigning and the cult of personality.
Story behind the song
During the 2000 presidential campaign I got totally sick of all the political campaign speeches and the way the masses would roar at seeming anything a candidate would say...no matter how mediocre or mundane...the whole cult of personality aspect of it all. This song came out of those frustrations. Please note that this song has no party affiliations!! :)
Lyrics
Balance of power
In egocentric hands
Charismatic speeches
You’ve got to understand
Play on our emotions
Like a tasty, toxic potion
Drawn in by their sleight
Like a moth towards light
Laying down a smokescreen
Hoping that we won’t see
What’s really going on.
Civil-minded promise
Not all that it seems
Selfish ambitions
Disguised in noble schemes
Improving their lie
For a bigger piece of pie
Got to win that seat
Join the powers that be
Laying down a smokescreen...
