from one of my R&R musicals, "California, A State Of Being." A 3 times divorced mechanic is telling his young apprentice why he should avoid women, and why it is better for men to live in splendid isolation.

Story behind the song
In the musical : Johnny has been working at Jack's Filling Station for a year now, since Marylou jilted him, and left Smalltown USA to go to Hollywood, and become an actress.
He is of course blue and depressed. He is 19, and is still living in Smalltown, working a dirty, hard job as a mechanic. He can't forget Marylou and is constantly morose. His present is miserable and his future looks worse.
Jack, (the ex-biker owner of the garage) is worried about him and tries to cheer Johnny up by advising him that women are so bad for men, that the men should just avoid them entirely......however, he does admit, at the end of each verse....that the chemical attraction between the sexes is so strong.....that his advice is probably useless anyway. The Pheromones are ALWAYS too strong to resist.
You ladies listening to the song will be happy to learn that in the sequel to this musical, "California : A State Of Being II" it is revealed that Jack's 4th wife has him 110% under her thumb and that he is a completely "henpecked" husband.

Lyrics
SPLENDID ISOLATION
In splendid isolation is how a man should live
In joyful celebration, with no guilt to forgive
And you should never trust any woman, or have any woman for a friend
And I don’t know why I’m bothering at all, ‘cause
The chemicals will get you in the end.
In splendid isolation is how a man should dwell
With great procrastination and laziness as well
And you should never trust any female, nor have any female as a friend
And I don’t know why I’m bothering at all, ‘cause
The chemicals will get you in the end.
Chorus : Man is just an animal, and goes quite insane
When the proper molecules, send signals to his brain
He thinks that he’s in love with her ethics or her shame
When all the time his nose, is the party he should blame.
In splendid isolation is how all men should be
And in this incarnation should never see a she
And you should never trust any lady, or have any nana as a friend
And I don’t know why I’m bothering at all, ‘cause
The chemicals will get you in the end.
