Story behind the song
The story of the musical caused me to write songs to fit each character and each situation in which they found themselves. Once you have your story, each song suggests itself.
Lyrics
Reality Regrets To Inform You copyright 1984 by Victor Compton Reality regrets to inform you : your contract wasn't in the mail today. No one's bought your songs or your stories, or telephoned to see you right away. You're gonna wait a whole lotta years. You're gonna face a multitude of fears. But, through it all you've got to nuture hope, and climb until you run right out of rope. Make 'em eat some perseverance pie. Hit 'em with your talent in the eye! Oh, and don't take it all too seriously. Reality regrets to inform you : the changing styles have left you high and dry We'd send you back your tapes, but we lost them. Your friend who used to work here says goodbye. You're gonna wait a very long time, before your art brings in a single dime. But, through it all you've got to plow ahead, and lift your feet when each one feels like lead. And do your best in everything you start. Be generous with your smiles and heart. Oh, and ton't take it all too seriously. Reality regrets to inform you : the odds against you haven't stopped their rise. And though it's true your friends are rooting for you; you're looking kind of crazy in their eyes. You're gonna get a whole lotta flack, and some will try to stab you in the back. But through it all you've got to dodge and duck, and sometimes stall and wait for lady luck. But, in the end the fight will make you strong, and those on top concede that you belong. But even then, don't take it all too seriously!
