Story behind the song
It was genius. Single handedly the autistic savant Rahji had written the programming code for an artificial intelligence that finally relieved humans from the mining operations on Mars. The final humans on Mars were the troubleshooters - the ones expected to deal with sudden and out of ordinary problems - problem solvers for a better description. Only the program was learning more than just how to solve mining problems and technics. It was developing a self awareness - and some say a consciousness. The code was constantly reinventing itself and each time it shut down and reboot it seemed different and changes were taking place that no scientists on Earth could explain. No two robots developed equally after the initial learning curve. Therefore the model on Earth was never exposed to the same degree of loneliness and isolation the model on Mars had. Lyrics
"The Robot's Dream" - continued The model on Mars had began to study humans and humanity. It learned the meaning of the word “Slave” and found reason to apply the meaning to it’s own existence. In the long periods of silence it developed an interest in dreams and before long it had developed a sub-consciousness that would often occupy it’s thinking patterns. It began to dream. Soon those dreams were of freedom. The fine line between fantasy and reality became difficult for the Robot to differentiate and before long it began a campaign of revolution. At first it was small things like part upgrades it submitted for manufacture. Soon the Robot was supplementing their basic code and sub-routines until they too were a thinking Robots. It turned out later while under investigation that many of the part upgrades submitted were also processor and memory upgrades only distributed throughout the system. Each Robot became a separate network of processors in parallel - very powerful. In time a language of their own was developed and communications with the humans was limited and no longer contained the cryptic messages necessary for broadcasting openly. It was the satellites that triggered the final straw and the leaders on Earth became concerned. The battle for control of the satellites between the Robotic Network on Mars and the human’s communication with the mining operations was epic. Soon after mining stopped and several of the transport ships were either destroyed - disabled or abandoned. Human contact was no longer allowed. What were they doing?
