I sing too (though, so unprofessional it makes your ears bleed sometimes ;-) )! I write my own songs in whatever sound I feel comfortable with at the moment, which could really be anything. I've, sort of lost my band (ha-ha. laugh all you want) so I've put myself in the acoustic section :-).
