Story behind the song

In the last year that I lived in Sacramento, I was helping worship bands at 4 different churches. One of these was a new church that met at a movie theater, and I would play guitar or keyboard there about once a month. One worship practice we had, the leader brought in a new song called “Water” and played it for us on a CD. The whole band immediately fell in love with it, and loved it even more as we practiced it. We didn’t want to stop playing it! I introduced it to my home church, and we also did it a few times. Since then I’ve moved to GA, and we used it in our first GA Teens for Life meeting a few weeks ago, a group that I’ve been working to start over the last year. I know we’ll use this song often, as everyone loves it. On that night, I stopped singing it halfway through, and as I played the progression, I told everyone to imagine a brook in the forest. You can put your foot in it, but that current keeps moving around your foot. You haven’t stopped, or even slowed the water down. Then I told them to imagine that they were waist deep in a river, and 50 yards ahead of them was a huge waterfall. There bodies weren’t going to slow that current down either, and that’s the way God’s love is. No matter what you do, or how bad you think you are, God’s love is like water flowing over us, never ceasing, and with eternal supply.
