Story behind the song
The song is about a 70s gig at the Flamingo Club in Bristol Tennessee. What a blast it was! The chords to the song came years later, right after I bought an electric guitar and started playing again after being out of the business for 25+ years. The lyrics came last Christmas, not to long after sharing a little too much Christmas cheer with a friend from way back then. Its dedicated to the beautiful girls from King College, and the Bristol hot rods who chase them.
Lyrics
Early in the mornin', The agent's on the phone. He said I just need one small favor, then I'll leave you boys alone. There's trouble down in Bristol. The owner fired the band. So I need you boys to pack it up and hit the highway. And take it down to Dixieland. I need you boys to get on down to Bristol City, Tennessee motor town. I swear by God, all the girls there are pretty, And them good ole boys they really do get down. Late Friday evenin' The northern boys are doing fine. Southern rockin' mixed with Kool and the Gang, And everyone is havin' a time. Gettin' down is a feeling, That everyone can understand. A little bit of soul, mixed with rock'n'roll, At a party down in Dixie land. You know you gotta get on down to Bristol City, Tennessee motor town. I swear by God, all the girls there are pretty, And them good are really gettin' down.
