Tribute to Columbia's crew, families, and friends. Please read the info on the Love Unites "bio" page.
Love Unites is a group consisting of members of New Life Christian Fellowship Church located in Lake City, Florida. The song "Columbia's Song" was written my Stan Simons and composed and performed by Joe Royster. Joe is our Music Minister at N.L.C.F. More information about our church is available at our website at: http://www.nlcf.com Columbia's Song was written during the first 3 hours after the accident on February 1st 2003. Stan was home waiting to leave for some doctor's appointments when he turned on the television as the live news reports of the crash were beginning. The film clips of the Columbia breaking up as she flew over Texas left him stunned, and the words of the song began playing in his mind. While the television coverage continued in one room, he went into another and wrote the lyrics on his computer. A few days later, Stan took the lyrics to Joe and he began work on the music. It was then learned that Joe's brother-in-law is a supervisor with a firm that handles the cargo payloads on the space shuttle missions. Columbia had been his assignment. He knew all 7 astronauts and 2 of them were personal friends. The song was used during a memorial "home-going" service for the fallen astronauts during the first week of March. This man is going to seek permission from NASA to play the song in the VAB (Vehicle Assembly Building) at Cape Kennedy, Fl. where Columbia's wreckage is being re-assembled to learn the cause of the mis-hap. We hope that everyone involved will be comforted with this song. Music is a power that can be used for good, and our hope is that will be achieved in this circumstance. Columbia's Song has been hand delivered to Toby Keith's manager and we have great hopes that a decision to record it will be forthcoming. As of 3/9/2003 no commitments have been made, but we hope to hear from them soon. It is our sincere hope that the song will be recorded and that America will embrace it as a way of showing the families and friends of the fallen, that the average American deeply feels their pain and loss, and will always remember and value the sacrifices of their loved ones. Thank you for listening. Stan Simons

Lyrics
Columbia’s Song [V1] Early one morning Just after daybreak Texas heard a news report And learned Columbia’s fate Seven “fallen-heroes” Seven “falling-stars” Entered into heaven Breaking many hearts [Bridge] Their mission was accomplished Their work on earth was done One, - “Star of David” And six, - “Americans” [Chorus] Seven “stars” have fallen From the Texas sky Seven souls immortal Now, - heaven beautify Seven “stars” now watch us From God’s throne today As two nations come together United, - as they pray [V2] Columbia’s final flight Would have made Sam Houston proud! As she re-entered the atmosphere High above the Texas clouds Allies in spacesuits Like so very few Had seen the earth from God’s - Panoramic view [Bridge] They peered into His face Then bid him “shalom” But did not realize - Soon they would be home [Chorus] Seven “stars” have fallen From the Texas sky Seven souls immortal Now stand in, - Paradise Seven “stars” now watch us From God’s throne today As two nations come together United, - one more way [Repeat Chorus] Seven “stars” have fallen From the Texas sky Seven souls immortal Now stand in, - Paradise Seven “stars” now watch us From God’s throne today As two nations come together United, - one more way February 1st 11:00 PM EST Copyright 2003 Stan Simons P.O.
