In memory of Grandma Aamodt
songwriter country music
Singer/songwriter of acoustic & country music.
I am a singer songwriter but mostly a songwriter. I write country music and play at writer's nights in Nashville, Tennssee. I have been writing since I was in High School in 1978. I have written over 400 songs over the years and try to write songs about real life that have a little depth and meaning instead of the usual fluff heard on most radio stations.

Story behind the song
Grandma was 6 months shy of turning 100 when she passed away. This is some of the things she would say about being the last one surviving of all her friends. I thought to myself, she must feel like the last leaf on a tree. So I wrote about it.
Lyrics
Last leaf on the tree Grandma said, I feel just like The last leaf on the tree Everyone I grew up with Has passed on but me I’m ready for heaven even though I’m scared And try not to let it show I know how much you’ll miss me It’s time for both of us to let go Chorus: I know I must be strong But grandpa’s been gone so long And last night, I thought I hear him call Now this last leaf’s ready to fall Don’t call it a funeral or I’ll be mad I hope you do this right Have the family gather around And celebrate my life There’ll be a reunion waitin for me With everyone I’ve known Don’t think of me as leavin I’m just goin home Chorus: repeat Bridge: All my friends up in heaven Must have wondered if I ever died She smiled and said, I’ve lived so long They must think I’ve gone to the other side Chorus: repeat Ó 2005 Troy Ross
