Story behind the song
We had the music written for the song before the lyrics... We actually put 6 possible titles in a hat and drew one out. The title we pulled was "Your Crown", but as we were writing the lyrics it adapted into "Crowning the King".
Lyrics
vs1
the thorn-twisted crown wasn’t made by soldiers.
It was made from sin that all the world passed down.
You and I both had a hand crowning the King-
Anguish for Him; beauty for you and me…
Chorus
To me Your crown is a sign of life.
It’s a sign of wondrous love, mercy, and might.
And I will bow down
Your praise to bring
For I had a hand
Crowning the King.
Vs2
We all sin cause our hearts are black and cold,
And if we had our way, we would sell our souls.
but You've made us worthy through Calvary.
Now we sinners can crown You King.
Chorus
Bridge
Every knee will bow- every tongue confess
The crowning of the King in all your holiness.
listen as all nations- lift one voice to sing
you and I will have a hand- crowning the King!
Vs3
The thorn-twisted crown lasted for a moment.
A sign reminding us of our atonement.
That crown is now gone, a distant memory.
It has been replaced by crowns of never-ending glory.
