This i a song about indigenous people's and how customs and cultures give way to "progress".
Hard drinking Black weirdos who play punk rock!!!
Chicago's one and only all-Black punk rock band.
(on hiatus)
Story behind the song
This song is about cultures like afrikan slaves, aborigines, native americans, and other indigenous peoples, tribes and cultures who lost the "old ways"...customs, art, parts of thier culture, entire languages thier lives, and much more...either through colonization, by being massacred and conquered, or through the youth wanting to forget...in order to fit into the new colonized society. Most of the song is told from the perspective of an older man of a tribe ranting on the subject.
Lyrics
Children Of The Dust
The old ways are always left behind
The new ones never seem to mind
But what is lost is gone.
A legend twisted when it’s told
some people fear – wondering what is wrong
familiar echo near – but it’s dead, unreachable
Look inside, look outside
In my mind, what u can’t find
Blinded by my cage in light
Strafing birds of plastic signs
some people fear – wondering is this all
the real answer is no! – but it’s “dead”, unreachable
