Name, Number & Message is a simple, tongue-in-cheek country song. It is meant to be humorous. I put James Dean in it.

Jim Colyer Band is a free-wheeling, ever-changing thing. Members come and go. The one constant is my catalog of songs. I do some of the lead vocals but employ females as I write lots of girl songs.

Story behind the song
I was making calls to music publishers in Nashville and kept getting their answering machines. I decided to write a song about an answering machine.
Lyrics
NAME, NUMBER & MESSAGE We used to talk for hours and hours She hung on my every word She said I was a poet The sweetest voice she'd heard She said I really touched her With no one in between Now the closest that I come Is her answering machine Leave your Name, Number & Message But keep your excess baggage I don't wanna hear your garbage Anymore Leave you Name, Number & Message I'll call you at my convenience Can't you see I'm not interested Anymore Our relationship went on and on She wanted me every night She laughed at all my jokes With her arms around me tight She said I was a genius A modern day James Dean Now the only thing I'm reaching Is her answering machine Leave your Name, Number & Message But keep your excess baggage I don't wanna hear your garbage Anymore Leave your Name, Number & Message I'll call you at my convenience Can't you see I'm not interested Anymore Leave your Name, Number & Message I'll call you at my convenience Can't you see I'm not interested Anymore c2005 Jim Colyer ASCAP
