Singer/ songwriter
Lawrence Bullock is a singer songwriter living in Mendocino, CA I'm often asked who I sound like, what kind of music do I play. Well, I listen to a lot of things. In Ireland they say I sound like Christie Moore, Bob Dylan (which surprises the hell out of me), Van Morrison (again, surprised) and I've even gotten Jim Croce on occasion. But you know, I'm thinking of chucking it all and banging on rocks til I reach a state where the atoms split apart and I realize that life's the first skip of the stone God throws across the Universe pond. I just write what comes into my head. I never think about writing a "hit" tune. I know the formula for writing a "hit" tune, it just never occurs to me to write one. The music biz these days is so corporatized, that what I write seems quaint and out of date. Oh well, I can only write what I write.

Lyrics
Got an aching in my belly, got a shakin' in my head I feel like I'm dyin' an' I wish I was dead If I live till tomorrow it'll be a long time and I'll reel and I'll fall and I’ll rise on codine An' it's real, an' it's real, one more time When I was a young man I learned not to care With whiskey and from it I often did swear My mother and father said whiskey’s a curse But the fate of their baby was many times worse An' it's real, an' it's real, one more time You'll forget about women, you'll forget about men Try it just once, an' you'll try it again Now sometimes I wonder and sometimes I think At least I’m living my life without stooping to drink An' it's real, an' it's real, one more time Stay away from the cities, stay away from the towns Stay away from the men pushin' the codine around Stay away from the stores where the remedy is fine Or you’ll live all your days as a slave to codine An' it's real, an' it's real, one more time [Now when darkness falls, comes that hunger and pain The cries of the beast that lives deep in your brain It whimpers and whines and it justifies You need it so bad cause your life’s just a lie] (Additional lyrics by Lawrence Bullock..apologies to Buffy St. Marie...I took the liberty of the folk artist) An' it's real, an' it's real, one more time Got an aching in my belly, got a shakin' in my head I feel like I'm dyin' an' I wish I was dead If I live till tomorrow it'll be a long time and I'll reel and I'll fall and I’ll rise on codine An' it's real, an' it's real, oe more time
