Story behind the song
I wanted to see if I could do a song in the key of Jandek. I took information on how Jandek tunes his guitar, and created a random sequence of those notes. As best I can remember, he picks individual notes, so I set up a long sequence of those notes (in the proper octaves) with lots of rests. I figured he changes chord by just barring straight across the neck and moving up and down, so I transposed chunks of my midi file to minor third, minor 5th, 5th, and 6th. I let band in a box generate the accompaniment. There has been a lot of discussion on the Jandek list about Son House and other early blues guys on the Jandek list, so I selected "Country Blues" style. I kept my original midi file as the guitar part. I had Microsoft Sam read the lyrics from Sitting in a Chair. Then I used the one of the features in BIAB 2005 to harmonize Sam’s voice with the guitar part (this is why it's so much bigger now - it was just midi before, now you can import audio into it, and it will do interesting things with your audio). Furthermore, I applied a voice style that is supposed to make it sound like Dylan (to me it makes it sound a bit like Billie Holliday, but what do I know?) Then I took the whole thing into sonar and groove quantized the whole thing to Microsoft Sam’s part
Lyrics
Then I took all the lyrics from "Sitting in a Chair" and not wanting to make people I was trying to do a direct cover of one of his songs, I used a creative and complex algorhythm to rearrange them (I put them in alphabetical order!)
