Lyrics
I met an odd couple on the bus yesterday
a mute man and def women, she couldn't hear what he couldn't say
only the women could speak, only the man could hear
and it would appear, that the frustration would be to much to bear
but.. that didn't seem to be the case, he'd just signal to his wife
with his hand. when she was speak to loud or quiet,
and she'd adjust the conversation, he kept a pad of paper and a pen
to write messages, and the odd poem on occasion
but since he couldn't talk, his wife would read them out loud
and he'd listen, tappin his foot to keep the rythm
the sad thing about it is the wife can't hear own words
so everyone gets to enjoy the poem except for her
well its a year later, and I've been taking the same bus
and they've been getting on at the same stop, on the same bus
but today, when we got to their stop something was different
because the man didn't have his wife with him
the past couple days she'd been lookin sick
and she wasn't saying the poems with normal beautiful pitch
at the front of the bus there was no where to sit
so he came to the back, motioned towards me, so I moved my shit
he took a seat next to me, looked at me and smiled I smiled back, than he put his bag down in the aisle
it was about a mile, before he pulled out his little pad of paper, and a black pen
and began to write his days masterpeice
I watched him as he wrote it, he was a natural poet
never once did he stop to think, he never questioned his emotions
suddenly a splash of water blessed the sheet
I checked for rain on the street and checked the roof for a leak, nothing
I looked at the man, tears running down his cheek
I wanted to ask him if everything was alright but I didn't speak
I just looked at his paper and began to read
when I reached the end I learned his wife had died in her sleep
he looked at me as if he knew I was reading, put away his pen
smiled and got off the bus and I never saw the man again
it's a sunny day outside, but it's raining in his world
it's never good weather, when you're missing your girl
