Story behind the song
The first two lines of the song began as a thought process while trying to go to sleep one night. They continued into the next morning and until I could finally find the time to sit down and write the rest. Musically, it was one of those rhythms that I had been playing with for awhile waiting on the rest of it to come together. The song in this form is relatively new. I was once a member of a songwirter's club and sent the original lyrics in to be critiqued by a "professional." He thought it was too preachy, so I changed the first and third verses, and adjusted the chorus. (The song was originally titled "Understand the Words.") I re-submitted it to the "professional" and he liked it much better. However, I had a hard time letting go of the original, so the "echo bridge" was created to transfer the chorus back to its original form at the end of the song.
