Another of my "number station" song cycle, this one is a wacked-out 12/8 jam based on a Morse Code sequence. Sounds a bit like Ennio Morricone crossing paths with Amon Duul II.
indie solo
This is just my own solo stuff. I do this crap mostly for my own amusement and/or as songwriting/production/arranging exercises. I don't how to categorize myself since I'm liable to try absolutely anything that catches my fancy, from indie-punk to '70s TV theme spoofs to ambient atmospherics. It's all here for you to enjoy, and if you're not careful you might get a headache before it's done, hey hey hey.

Story behind the song
My infantile obsession with shortwave number stations proves more genuinely serendipitous than usual with the present track. The real OLX was allegedly run by the Czechoslovakian intelligence agency in the '80s, and used the Morse Code sequence "OLX OLX VVV DE" (only two "OLX"s) as it's call-up. The sequence and it's irresistable 12/8 rhythm were just too good to pass up, and I somehow translated it to drums, and took it from there. The Morse Code in the song is tapped out on the guitar using a slide (guitarists: it's at the 19th fret using the three high strings); the sort of organ-like minor chord sound ends up working with all the chords I used...another happy accident. The real star of this one is my then-recently acquired Peavey Bandit 112 Transtube amp, its overdrive channel and spring reverb tank in particular. All the distortion and reverb are coming from the amp; no other effects mar this glorious Tascam 4-track cassette recording. There are three discrete miked guitar tracks and a combined drum/bass track. As usual, just one mic on the drum kit, bass recorded directly, and both of these tracks bounced to one momo track. The guitar is my trusty Lotus str@t, and the bass is my white-tortoise pbass if you're interested. This song is about as designed-for-mass-consumption as the OLX number station was. Meaning that you should really dig it. You may whack me over the head for being too hyperactive on the bass, though.
