Story behind the song
When what you've come to see as 'normal' suddenly becomes an insult to all you value you're either insulted or your values change. I became insulted by the effeciency with which communion was handled and the fact that it is often segmented to be this little thing, or a side-line item we pass through to get to the paid advertisement for moral living. What I've learned since is that communion is center and central to a larger, more active life in Christ. We, as the body, are fed by the bread of life (Christ's reference to Himself). Our thirst is quenched by the water of life (all living bodies need blood, His blood is our life, it is our thirst-buster...). The teachings of Christ and the ongoing life of a Christian are a type of communion which our regularly scheduled (according to the wisdom of His Apostles and early Church documentation) partaking is more than merely observing something - it's being something from week to week, day to day, moment to moment.
