Lyrics
Isis was a slave standing with his brother, Tyrese
At the grave of their deceased mother
Where he prayed [with a priest] for God to let her find some peace
Tell her that he loves her and could He please ease their pain?
But Ty wasn’t the same; there was only hate in his heart
For their owner, Shane, who made them work so hard,
Feel shame and make him so cross
Whereas tough times allowed Isis to find salvation in his cross
But Shane was still boss and all he cared about
Was his family and raising crops so he needed rain
Just like Isis he would pray every day
But it never came… it… never came
So he would take his frustrations out on his slaves
Leaving their whole body grazed and bleeding for days
And they were pleading for him to stop being so crazed
Tyrese couldn’t take another beating; he was full of rage
One day he managed to free himself of his chains
Made it away and escaped along the rail way
But Isis didn’t make it… Ty couldn’t take him
So Isis just used his spare time for praying
Tyrese would come back and could see Shane cane him
He was shaking with rage, he wasn’t gonna take it
When he saw Shane’s daughter in the fields playing
He saw a smile on her face as she went home to her mother
Ty lit the first flame and before long the whole house was ablaze
All he could see was a maze of smoke as he heard them choke
He set off on his own, forever alone
Walking down a road with no hope
When Isis leaped in shouting their names
Only to find them lifeless and the fire now around him
Just yards from the girl when Shane found him
The sun was beaming down on him; light surrounded him
Shane removed Isis’ cross from his neck
It burned its image in his hand as he contemplated his loss
He called to the sky as he got covered in flames
Out the corner of his eye he saw a slivering snake
He ignored it he was just rolling around in pain
When the skies opened and it poured down with rain
