Lyrics
August 7th, '98 and a truck loaded with weaponry
Exploded at the US Embassy in Kenyan territory
The terrorism was linked to the group al-Qaeda
With the radical Osama bin Laden as their leader
The reaction was to freeze all their bank accounts
But the faction still needed cash to get their message out
So they turned to "blood diamonds" from Sierra Leone
Where rebel forces had taken over every man's home
Civil War had led to the RUF taking control
Barbarians who have no problem forsaking their soul
Their key strategy was to stop 'em escaping the tragedy
They capture children, drug 'em then threaten 'em
Some of them as young as seven.. they're taught to be soldiers
So they become cold blooded killers once they're older
Anyone of age gets to be a slave and spend their days
looking for diamonds to make their master a few K's
Everybody's left in awful medical condition
Any man, woman or child lucky to escape with their life
Probably won't have their limbs or genitals with 'em
and they'll have to find their way with terrible vision
Once the Western world found out they banned 'em immediately
But diamond sellers will still buy and sell 'em greedily
So they need to be imported illegally
...something that can be done relatively easily
Now back in two-thousand and one another attack
was about to be done and the problem came back to banks again
So they took their money before they could freeze 'em out
and used it to train killers for measly amounts
Aziz Nassour was a courier of diamonds making 'em half-a-mil weekly
He went completely unnoticed because it was so easy
Then the next few months played out exactly as they planned
Ali Darwish set up a safe house way out in Monrovia
Where terrorists exchanged diamonds, money and weapons
Then in September the world gets changed in a few seconds
Despite all this the diamond industry refuses self-regulation
So think for a second before you next indulge in your reputation
Now check it... we're still all slaves
They've just made us wear the chains around our necks now
Working at a place you hate for a cheque
To buy shit you're told makes you feel great but you're in debt now
and none of it changes the fact that you still get down
There's so many long faces 'cause you're looking in the wrong places
Searching for perfection instead of striking a balance
Working in professions you've always hated
But if offered a promotion you'll take it... I've seen the proof
The bling of that thing 'round your neck blinds you from the truth
It defines you 'cause you don't have the mind to look inside yourself
and find anything other than pride in your wealth
You'll die by yourself but spend your life impressing others
Your wedding ring could be smothered in blood shed and sin
Did you stop to think of the violence and death it brings?
Your silence is deafening...
