Story behind the song
This is interesting to me. A good friend, Gene Smith sent it to me. We rewrote a bit of it, put it to music and really liked how it turned out.
Lyrics
I rode into a ghost town in the middle of the day I saw that old scarecrow and a field of hay And he knew all that went on in this tiny town He could see things far and wide for miles around Hey Mr. Scarecrow What have you found Is there any gold in this old ghost town Hey Mr. Scarecrow What did you see If you let me know, I’ll set you free Tell me Mr. Scarecrow what was it like To really know the truth about that O.K. gun fight Did Jessee James rob all the banks amd clean out all those trains Or did he help the poor, like some of 'em claim Now I’m tired of talkin’ and just standin’ around You never answer, you don’t make a sound Well, I think you're too smart for your own good There’s a lot you could tell me, if you only would Bridge: You've seen em come, you've seen em go When they were high, when they were low You know the story that's not been told You watched em die, when they got old
