Story behind the song
This song came to me several years back when I was REALLY pissed off at my girlfriend. While the lyrics aren't directly about that, they embody a lot of the frustration, pain, disappointment, and anger I felt at the time. The lyrics were sort of "spur of the moment" written. Only the bridge and the chorus came to me, the verses I sort of slapped together without much thought. As a funny side note, I have written new lyrics for the song that more accurately capture what I was feeling, but I can't get the vocals with my new equipment to "fit" as well as they did with the old equipment. After about a month of 6+ hour a day work on the vocals (I think I have said "Conquered Territory" somewhere on the order of 600 times), I finally gave up and just used the old vocals and lyrics. Consequently, the vocals you hear were made with a $2 LabTek microphone and SoundMasher (tm) soundcard, no preamps, and only software-based effects. Just goes to show you that sometimes new equipment ISN'T the answer to a better song.
