Hipper Than Thou is essentially School House Rock for obscure history and theology.
Hipper Than Thou is an ill fated collection of personalities with no commercial aspirations whatsoever. Our music is less bound by style than it is by talent. All songs are limited to the 9 chords our guitarist knows. Stylistically we range from Folk, to Jazz Folk, to Electric Folk, with a little Folk Rock.

Story behind the song
Caedmon once told me that 80 percent of Texans who don't live in Houston live on the I 35 Corridor. I doubt that's true, but He always thought El Paso should follow Santa Fe's lead and join New Mexico. Anyway, this is a song about the places he saw on his College commute to Baylor and points South.
Lyrics
I remember the first time I saw the place. I remember a verse by young Peter Case. I would take me a nurse if I were planning to eat there. I remember the lizard mariachi band. I remember the Indian watching o'er the land. I remember the kids were always planning to meet there. A friend said he saw Willie there, Back when he had braided hair, Smoking like he had no care, that was the legend. If you're going inside, better take you a friend, Me I'm gonna ride, I won't ever go in. I love 35 not for the places I've been but for the ones I imagine. You can call me naïve, you can call me afraid. You can think I believe in this clever charade. I’m simply relieved by the world that I’ve made, it’s not truth, it’s just fashion. I remember the rainbow on the granary, I remember the crying and chicanery, How the satellite broadcast from Tahiti to Norway. I remember the church that was made out of domes, I remember the one made out of mobile homes, I remember enough to never darken the doorway. A friend said he saw Elvis there, Choir robed with graying hair. Singing some eternal prayer, that was the legend. If you're going inside, better take you a friend, Me I'm gonna ride, I won't ever go in. I love 35 not for the places I've been but for the ones I imagine. You can call me naïve, you can call me afraid. You can think I’m deceived by this clever charade. I’m simply relieved by the world that I’ve made, it’s not truth, it’s just fashion. There are no Dinosaurs at Natural Bridge. No UFOs at inner space. I know no product that live up to the pitch. So you see why I don’t have to see that place.
