Story behind the song
I had this musician that worked for me in my band, he still tours occasionally with me, that would show up on my wife and I's doorstep like every two months to stay for about a week because his live-in girlfriend would kick him out the the condo HE owned. So after enduring this for about a year and a half I wrote this song for him. What is really unbelievable is after leaving this woman, he went back and married her. He's still paddling upstream.
Lyrics
Woke up neck deep in water, In a flood of emotional debris. I can't keep treading water While you drown us in this apathy. Going to make my way to the shoreline And set myself free. No more paddling upstream baby On your river of misery. Take this chain from around my neck, Take this anchor hooked to my feet. No more struggling against your current babe, I quit fighting something I can't beat. Woke up neck deep in water, In a flood of emotional debris. I can't keep treading water While you drown us in this apathy. Going to make my way to the shoreline And set myself free. No more paddling upstream baby On your river of misery. Your heart's a rumbling eddy, I was so love blind I could'nt see. I'm dying from this malaise woman, On this your river of misery. break/ then stanza wih guitar solo in between stanzas, then guitar solo taking the tune home after stanzas. On your River of misery On your River of misery On your River of misery On your River of misery Guitar solo out
