Story behind the song
I went to a Jonathan Edwards concert with one of my friends, and he's very unknown in the music world, but let me just tell you, he is an utterly amazing performer, and he makes you - or at least me personally - want to get up and play guitar and perform. Well, I got home, and I still had that itch to go up in front of a group of people and sing, but since that couldn't be done, this was the best alternative.
Lyrics
go to sleep now little darling
don’t wait up for me
turn your sheets the way you like
cuz it’s thirty-one past three
I’m staying up a little longer
think i need to unwind
close your eyes
don’t think of me
it’ll give you peace of mind
you told me once my darling
if it didn’t take too long
that you’d love a sweet recording
of one of my melancholy songs
that it went la da la di da la di da...
well you made me laugh
and you made me cry
i could never write a song
to capture that now could i
and i couldn’t write to impress you
my faulty words wouldn’t be missed
but there’s a tune i know that reminds me of you
and it goes something like this
i saw the look in your eyes there
and i wish i could explain
but my vigor took off down the road
and left me in vain
sweetness to your dreams darling
my thoughts have gone blank
no song is decent enough for you
and you have yourself to thank
singing la di da la di da...
well you made me laugh
and you made me cry
i could never write a song
to capture that, now could i
and i couldn’t write to impress you
my faulty words wouldn’t be missed
but there’s a tune i know that reminds me of you
and it goes something like this
do do do...
