Story behind the song
In their exile Adeodauts’ wife conceived to bear a son, a child to relive his struggle, the beautiful perpetuation of a dying race. Though death itself seemed to linger just beyond the confines of their refuge, Adeodatus spoke to his wife in her times of anxiety, words not of comfort, though their delivery had that effect, but of a realization that his plight in a cruel system produced little more than dirty fingernails and migraine headaches. The burden of human struggle against a corrupt existence had now, without choice, been placed on his son. “ Shall I flee no longer from my own self?” he wondered. And Adeodatus recalled the words penned by his father, “God did not make all things then leave them, but they are of Him and in Him. See, there He is wherever truth is loved. He is within the very heart, yet the heart has strayed from Him. Return to your hear, O transgressors, and hold fast to Him who made you. Stand with Him and you will stand fast. Rest in Him and you shall rest.”
