Story behind the song

A couple of dear friends of mine had announced their intention to end their marriage of ten years. Later they revealed that the decision had been reached six months before the ‘official’ announcement. I thought about how difficult it must have been to stay living together, knowing it was over, and keeping this knowledge to themselves
