Where He Belongs

A song about the prodigal son.
Simple songs that I hope will touch the heart of God, and maybe a few other people in the process.
I may never make it to Nashville, and I may never be on the radio, but that's okay. That's not why I do what I do. I do what I do because I understand things best when I get them down in rhyming lines set to music. I do what I do because I believe that my Heavenly Father enjoys the songs that few hear just as much as He enjoys the songs that everyone hears. I do what I do because it's one of the best ways I know how to worship God, encourage friends, and uplift the body of Christ.

Story behind the song
The term "love-sick father" caught my attention in a book I recently read. What an amazing picture of God!!
Lyrics
He stands on the porch every night Scanning the distant horizon And it’s just the same every night He waits there in vain for his son And how many nights has he laid awake Hoping his child will see the light of day? What more can he pray? He won’t give up He won’t give in He holds fast to his hope He trusts in faith He trusts in grace And love to lead him home Where he belongs He walks through the day and the night Trudging a road he thought long gone And it’s just the same every night He aches for the light of new dawn And how many nights has he asked the sky How he could fall this far and wond’ring why God should hear his cry He won’t give up He won’t give in He holds fast to his hope He trusts in faith He trusts in grace And love to lead him home Where he belongs And finally there comes a night A far-off figure starts to run They’ve both been waiting for this night A love-sick father and his son And how many nights have they dreamed of this A desp’rate embrace and a father’s kiss Heaven’s purest bliss He once was dead Now he’s alive His father’s only hope He once was lost But now he’s found And love has led him home Where he belongs
