Story behind the song
A sermon where my pastor said the oft-repeated line, "Christ died for your sins." I simply personalized that statement. A blues format seemed the appropriate vehicle to make the statement.
Lyrics
(Lead intro) I'll take my share of the blame And I know My life will never be the same I was such a selfish man All wrapped up in my pride I was never, never satisfied As time went on and on Still I kept doin' wrong On and on and on it went I caused You such misery But You kept on lovin' me All the way to Calvary (Lead) As time went on and on Still I kept doin' wrong On and on and on it went I caused You such misery But You kept on lovin' me All the way to Calvary I can't change it No, I can't change the past But now I know I'm finally free at last On that tree of shame You posted my bail It was I who drove the nail I drove the nail Yes, it was me Lord
